184: Nightmares of Miscarriage

184: Nightmares of Miscarriage

I’m not one for big announcements and it feels kind of weird for me to share this way, but we are expecting our 8th child! It’s weird having to share this special moment and having the opposite thoughts about it - thus the episode title.

I have not talked about it a ton, but I had a miscarriage after my first boy. It hasn’t affected me a lot in my life however I didn’t realize that this is how it was for me - having to experience a new pregnancy - and how it is different for me than it is for others.

I want to share with you how miscarriage shapes the way you view pregnancy, live pregnancy, and the thoughts of child loss and baby loss at any stage.

Including the thoughts we are having as we journey through a new pregnancy that:

  • It’s just hard to undo the trauma and pain of miscarriage.

  • Having dreams of having a baby and it dies, is a normal experience to have after you have lost - a miscarriage, a stillbirth, a death of a child. You know the reality of death and you can’t unsee that.

  • Once you know death, you know that a pregnancy doesn’t guarantee a living child. I know that birthing a living child, doesn’t mean that they will continue to live and grow.

  • Other people who haven’t had a miscarriage have a different experience than I am and their thoughts are different from mine. And it was just eye opening to me, like this isn’t a normal experience.

  • You can use tools to help you through it and support your current experiences and the reality that there is no one and unique “normal” pregnancy for everyone

  • It’s okay to feel your anxiety, and your worry, to want more checkups, to do things to help you make feel better. Whatever type of mantra you have to help you focus on things you can only control.

Are you ready to stop cycling in the pain and anguish of grief? What if you could get a moment of calm and respite? After your child dies, everything feels hopeless and dark, and it’s hard to even think straight. Staying in survival mode keeps the cycle going.
