The Rising Moms Podcast

“Losing a child is a parent’s worst nightmare and it can turn your life upside down. It’s almost as if all hope is lost and there’s no point in moving forward in life. And it feels like people deem you crazy and that you are alone in your pain. But momma, trust me, and many of us who had undergone the same thing; you can heal from this pain. But what you need to do first is to be willing to heal and start again. (See also a rising mom’s story of healing from miscarriage.)

The emotions that come with grief is one of the biggest challenges. When we grieve through this kind of pain, we also feel other sorts of emotions like anger, guilt, hopelessness, and so on. But instead of repressing them and trying hard to run away from these emotions, we have to acknowledge them.

This is one of the things that Megan Hilluka advises us to do when trying to heal from this pain. She is a PTSD survivor after losing a child and now helps other grieving women go through the healing process.” - Rising Moms Podcast

The Joyful Mourning podcast

“Listen in as I spend time with Megan Hillukka. She shares the story of her daughter Aria and the subsequent trauma she faced as a mother whose 15 month old daughter had died in her sleep. Megan shares her journey with PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, and gives invaluable wisdom about getting help and the specific therapy that has brought her healing.

We also spend some time talking about how you can love and support someone who is walking through trauma as well as what it practically looked like for Megan to help her older children work through the grief of losing their baby sister. Anyone who has suffered loss has experienced trauma and yet we rarely associate post traumatic stress disorder with the loss of a baby so I am incredibly grateful for Megan sharing her experience and wisdom with us in this episode.

I pray this episode provides freedom in your grief journey as you are reminded that it is both helpful and important to get the help you need when you are grieving.” -The Joyful Mourning Podcast

Grief Out Loud Podcast

"How many children do you have?" This simple question turns treacherous for grieving parents. Megan Hillukka's daughter, Aria, died of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) when she was 15 months old. This devastating loss jettisoned Megan into a new world filled with grief, shock, and panic which eventually led to a diagnosis of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Needing support, Megan turned to therapy, writing, and connecting with other grieving parents. -Grief Out Loud Podcast and The Dougy Center

Losing a Child: Always Andy’s Mom Podcast

“Upon opening Aria’s mom’s website, meganhillukka.com, the very first words read, ‘One day, I was the mother of 3 children, then in one moment I wasn’t.’ Aria was 15 months old when her mother, Megan, walked into her bedroom one morning to find that she had inexplicably passed away in her sleep. Those opening words caught me the second I read them. I, too, knew that moment, the moment that changed everything forever, the moment where life as we knew it before, ended.” www.andy’smom.com
