Getting Back Peace and Calm With Heidi

Welcome to the Joyful Mom Podcast!

In this episode of The Joyful Mom Podcast, Megan sits down with longtime friend Heidi Hendrickson, a mom of six living in the Twin Cities, for a vulnerable conversation about loss, anxiety, and finding joy again. Heidi shares the story of losing her daughter, Alana, at 23 weeks of pregnancy. She was alone in a doctor's office in Oklahoma when she found out, and in the years that followed, she lived in constant fight-or-flight: panic attacks, brain fog, sleepless nights, intrusive thoughts, and a daily fear that her house would burn down. Two years of talk therapy and EMDR helped her cope, but the anxiety never really lifted. She came to believe that constant overwhelm, irritability, and snapping at her kids were just part of motherhood.

Heidi describes the change she felt after only two sessions of Megan's program, including the moment she calmly unplugged a smoking pellet grill and walked away without a second thought. She also opens up about using the program with her young son, whose anxiety about death and fire had shaped his childhood, and the calm his family noticed in him soon afterward. She talks about preparing for the birth of her daughter Madeline, her first girl since Alana. That pregnancy brought back deep fears that she didn't deserve a healthy baby, and Heidi describes how she was able to fully enjoy the moment Madeline was placed on her chest.

Megan and Heidi also talk about what the work actually feels like. Heidi describes it as a guided meditation "on overdrive" that doesn't require reliving trauma. She shares how it's helped her set emotional boundaries as an empath and how it brought back the belly laughs her husband first fell in love with. The episode closes with a message to every mom who has experienced pregnancy loss or miscarriage: your grief is real and valid, and it doesn't need to be compared to anyone else's. If you've tried everything and still feel stuck, Heidi's story is a reminder that peace, calm, and joy in motherhood are possible.
