144: Anticipatory Grief With Nancy Jensen

144: Anticipatory Grief With Nancy Jensen

Every year on Jessica’s birthday and on her Angelversary, the Jensens wear Silly Socks in

Jessica’s honor. They also usually have an FB event where people share photos of their Silly

Socks in honor of Jessica and to show their love and support for Jessica and her family.  Jessica’s

worst fear was that she would be forgotten. Wearing Silly Socks gives her family hope that she

will see them and know that she is loved and will never be forgotten. Please join Jessica’s family in wearing Silly Socks tomorrow, June 3rd on Jessica’s birthday

In my conversation with Nancy, here are some highlights we talked about!

-Can you start by sharing who you are, and how you came to know grief?

-What was it like, those first moments realizing that your baby was in heart failure & that she would need multiple heart surgeries?

- living in that state of wondering, and worrying, and not knowing what is going to happen next, certainly takes a toll on your body and mind. Can you share a little about that?

-We chatted a bit about anxiety earlier, can you share a little bit about your experience with anxiety?

-When you lived with not knowing, worrying, every day Jessica could die, can you share your experience when she did die?

-We also talked a bit about how two things can be true at once, you can be joyful and stressed, like when Jessica was here, you loved her, and you worried about her. You had very hard moments and very good moments. What is it like after a child who takes so much of your energy, heart, time, when suddenly all that is gone. There’s no one to care for anymore. What do you do?
